Day 3: COLOMBO – ANURADHAPURA – DAMBULLA

Breakfast at the Hotel. Transfer from Colombo to Anuradhapura. (04 Hrs Drive Approx.) Anuradhapura which was made the first capital of Sri Lanka by King Pandukhabaya in the 4th century BC and it so remained till the 11th century AD known as the longest serving capitals, famous in ancient and modern times. Anuradhapura is a beautiful picturesque town located along a river bank which is popular for the fascinating ancient ruins and deep rooted Buddhist culture. There is plenty to see in Anuradhapura from ancient trees like the Sri Maha Bodhi, the oldest tree in the world, to ancient monasteries and ruins of historical importance. Day 4: DAMBULLA –SIGIRIYA – KAUDULLA - DAMBULLA

Breakfast at the Hotel. In the morning after breakfast you climb to Sigiriya Lions Rock. Sigiriya - The 5th century rock citadel of King Kasyapa and World Heritage Site - Sigiriya - doesn't only boasts of ancient Sri Lankan engineering & urban planning supremacy but also acclaims to be one of the finest monuments of art & culture. Step through the gigantic 'Lion Paws' - overlooking the symmetrical royal gardens below - to comprehend the absolute splendor that once dominated this rock fortress. Surrounded by ramparts & moats the Lion Rock - resembling the mythological 'City of Gods' - is coated by frescoes that relate to Gupta style paintings found in Ajanta caves of India. Walk in the shade of an eminent 'mirror wall' embracing the Western face of Sigiriya representing an artistic hundred meters laminated with graffiti. Wander into the well-fabricated museum downstairs for an epic journey of yesteryears to realize how the citadel floated above citizens with the castle, ponds and irrigation systems that pumped water right onto its summit with an ingenious hydraulic system describing a colossal masterpiece of the great king which remained a wonder in Asia for centuries. NOTE: - The Sigiriya Rock Climb is strenuous but not difficult. There are Approx. 1200 steps to the top. The climb will take you between 2-3 hours depending on your fitness and the crowds at the time After Lunch at the Hotel head to Kaudulla National Park. Kaudulla National Park, a dry evergreen forest that spread over an area of 6656 hectares is connected to the corridor between nearby Minneriya Wildlife Park and Kaudulla.Kaudulla Reservoir (6675 ha), the centerpiece of the park is surrounded by the grasslands and scrubby forest. Kaudulla National Park is a sanctuary to numerous reptiles including Freshwater turtles, Indian Flap-shelled Turtle and Indian Black Turtle. Apart from the elephants, Kaudulla National Park is home to 23 species of mammals including Sambar Deer, Sri Lankan Axis Deer, Chevrotain, Wild boar, Leopard, and Sloth Bear are other mammals. Very rarely one could spot leopard and sloth bears .Tourists find a ride in Paddle-boats on the lake an excellent opportunity to enjoy bird watching. 160 species of bird including large water birds such as Spot-billed Pelican and Lesser Adjutant visit the Kaudulla tank. Asian Spoonbill, Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Black-headed Ibis, Painted Stork and Openbill Stork are common sights at the park. Peacock, Eagle, Giant Eagle that are hereditary to Sri Lanka are always hover over the park. One of the most spectacular sceneries in the park is hundreds of pelicans at the tank when it is about to sun set. Back to Hotel. Day 5: DAMBULLA – KANDY

Visit the Kandy Temple Kandy temple - Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple. Walk into this 147 acre bliss of an experience, passing well tended lawns, pavilions & an octagon conservatory to be greeted by the vast expanse of a magnificently landscaped lush green turf which will encourage you for an exhilarating break. Towards the north of the entrance rests a cafeteria that one might come across before stepping into some of the highlights - the orchid house & giant Javan fig tree - of this place which overflow in grace.
